About City

Osaka is the largest port city. It is the commercial center on Japanese island of Honshu and well known for its modern architecture, nightlife and hearty street food. Osaka Castle which has undergone several restorations is the main historical landmark. Around this, there is a moat and a park with variety of plum, peach and cherry-blossom trees. Sumiyoshi-taisha is among Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines. Next to Tokyo, Osaka is the Japan's second largest metropolitan city. It was the economic powerhouse of the Region Kansai for many centuries. Osaka was formerly known as Naniwa. The city’s west side has a main port and also it is famous for tourist attractions such as Osaka castle, Universal Studios Japan, Minami, Osaka aquarium, Kyocera Dome, Umeda sky building and the Tempozan Harbour Village. Osaka is well known for its food in Japan and abroad. Osakans are ruined by spending on food. Regional cuisine consists of takoyaki (octopus in fried batter), okonomiyaki (pan-fried batter cake), undo (a noodle dish), as well as the traditional oshizushi (pressed sushi), particularly batter (pressed mackerel sushi). The best time to travel to Osaka in Japan are in the months of May, June, July, September and October that have nice weather with a good average temperature. The city’s transport network is very well developed. The special constructed subways built make it possible to reach any place in the city with in about 30 minutes. Osaka distance is about 30 minutes by train from Kyoto and Nara with their many cultural and historical sights, and Kobe with their exotic and fashionable atmosphere.
